What was the mission?
SpaceX successfully launched Starlink Group 10-42 on a Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, on 9 July 2026 at 09:25:43 UTC. The flight added another batch of internet satellites to SpaceX's Starlink constellation, which delivers broadband from low Earth orbit.
The Falcon 9 Block 5 is a two-stage, partially reusable orbital rocket standing 70 meters tall, developed and operated by SpaceX. It is the most-flown operational launch vehicle in the world, with a first stage designed for up to 15 or more reflights.
Did the launch succeed?
Yes. According to SpaceX, the mission was a success, with the Falcon 9 lifting off on schedule and delivering its Starlink payload to low Earth orbit. What was the payload?
The payload was a stack of Starlink v2 Mini satellites for the Group 10-42 mission. Starlink is the largest satellite constellation ever built, with more than 8,000 spacecraft launched to date and thousands operational at any given time.
Each Starlink v2 Mini satellite carries phased-array antennas and laser inter-satellite links, allowing data to route between spacecraft without ground relays. The constellation operates in a shell architecture around 550 km altitude, inclined to cover most of the populated Earth.

How does the Falcon 9 recover its booster?
After stage separation, the Falcon 9 first stage performs a controlled descent and lands on an autonomous droneship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean downrange. Booster recovery is now standard on Starlink flights, and SpaceX has flown individual boosters more than 20 times, driving down the cost of access to orbit.
The payload fairing halves are also recovered from the ocean and reused, a practice SpaceX has employed for years to reduce hardware costs on high-cadence missions like Starlink.
Why do these launches happen so often?
Starlink deployment flights account for the majority of SpaceX's launch manifest, with the company targeting a launch roughly every few days across its Florida and California pads. Cape Canaveral's SLC-40, per SpaceX operations, is one of the busiest pads supporting this cadence.
