What happened?
SpaceX successfully launched the Transporter-16 dedicated sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) rideshare mission on a Falcon 9 Block 5 from Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, on 30 March 2026 at 11:02 UTC (04:02 local). Transporter-16 is part of SpaceX's SmallSat Rideshare Program, which bundles dozens of small satellites from multiple customers onto a single rocket to reach a shared polar orbit at a low per-kilogram price.
Transporter missions are the small-satellite equivalent of a carpool: instead of each operator buying an entire rocket, they share the ride to a common destination. Typical Transporter manifests include Earth-observation microsatellites, technology demonstrators, cubesats, and orbital transfer vehicles that later ferry customer craft to bespoke orbits. Payloads are mounted on standardized ports and dispensers, then released in a carefully sequenced deployment to avoid recontact.
