How did the flight profile work?
The mission followed SpaceX's now-standard Falcon 9 Starlink profile. About two and a half minutes after liftoff, the first stage shut down and separated, then flipped to begin its return. The second stage's single Merlin Vacuum engine continued burning to reach orbital velocity, while the reusable first stage flew back for a controlled landing on an autonomous droneship stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
Falcon 9 first stages are reused across many flights; SpaceX has flown individual boosters more than 20 times, and each successful landing lowers the marginal cost of adding Starlink capacity. Roughly one hour after launch, the second stage deployed the Starlink satellites, which then began their orbit-raising sequence.
