What happened?

SpaceX successfully launched a batch of Starlink internet satellites for the Group 17-44 mission on a Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket at 15:05 UTC on June 11, 2026, from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. Starlink is SpaceX's low-Earth-orbit broadband constellation, and Falcon 9 Block 5 is the company's workhorse partially reusable two-stage rocket.

How does deployment work?

After stage separation, the Falcon 9 second stage carried the stack to low Earth orbit before releasing the satellites, which then use onboard krypton-powered Hall-effect thrusters to raise themselves to their operational altitude of around 550 km. From there they slot into their assigned orbital plane within the constellation shell.

Did the booster land?

Falcon 9's reusability is central to SpaceX's high launch cadence. On West Coast missions, the first-stage booster returns to a droneship stationed in the Pacific Ocean, roughly eight and a half minutes after liftoff, before being refurbished and reflown.

SpaceX has now flown individual Falcon 9 boosters more than 20 times each, and the fleet has completed hundreds of successful landings since the first orbital-class recovery in 2015. Reflying boosters and recovering payload fairings has driven the marginal cost of each Starlink launch sharply lower.
