The GSLV Mk II is a three-stage, 49-meter-tall medium-lift rocket that combines solid, liquid, and India's indigenous cryogenic upper stage. It is ISRO's workhorse for placing roughly 2,500 kg payloads into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO).

Where is it launching from?

What is the payload?
GISAT-1A, also designated EOS-05, is a geo-imaging satellite intended to provide near-real-time observation of large regions of interest at frequent intervals. Unlike low-Earth-orbit imaging satellites that revisit a target only a few times per day, a geostationary imaging platform can continuously monitor the same area, making it valuable for disaster management, weather monitoring, agriculture, and border surveillance.
According to ISRO's mission concept, the satellite carries multispectral and hyperspectral imaging payloads operating in the visible and near-infrared bands. Placement in or near geostationary orbit at roughly 36,000 km altitude allows persistent coverage of the Indian landmass.
Why the GSLV Mk II?
The GSLV Mk II bridges the capability gap between the lighter PSLV and the heavier LVM3 (GSLV Mk III). Its cryogenic upper stage, powered by the indigenous CE-7.5 engine burning liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, is what enables it to loft heavier satellites toward geostationary transfer orbit. The vehicle has completed more than a dozen flights and became fully operational after ISRO qualified its home-built cryogenic stage.
