Where to see the aurora in Yukon

The outskirts of Whitehorse (Fish Lake Road, Takhini Hot Springs, Lake Laberge).

Kluane National Park and the Alaska Highway lakes.

Start with the northern sky, then look up — on active nights the aurora climbs overhead.

When to look

The aurora season in Yukon runs from late August to mid-April, whenever the sky is dark. Geomagnetic activity statistically peaks around the equinoxes (September and March), which are the strongest windows. On the night itself, the best window is roughly 10 pm to 2 am local time; a clear sky and a moonless or late-rising Moon matter as much as the Kp. Aurora forecasts are probabilities — a chance, never a promise.
